H. Upmann Coronas Major TA

Today I smoked an '07 H. Upmann Coronas Major TA.

Most of you know I'm not big on cigar reviewing per say, just becuase it's hard for me to convey my thoughts without resorting to using terms like "good" and "icky."
But I've been watching a lot of wine reviews lately, and I'm inspired to review a cigar because I don't know beans about wine.

So I went out back with a good book and my drinky drink, clipped the head the the Palio, and lit her up with my new Czonka triple flame.

All prelight draws taste about the same to me...so I won't waste time with that. Oh wait, just did! Tongue

First thing I thought after lighting it up was, "Have I ever smoked a habano Upmann before?" Not sure.

1st Half
Great draw, perfect. Not too tight or loose, a perfect amount of smoke.
Perfect slow even burn, no touchups required.
Ash held about 1/2 inch or so, but I never got an unexpected drop on my book. [bravo]
Not the flavor bomb I was expecting...not a lot of Cuban "twang" either.
I got a lot of tobacco (Cuban, but not twangy..hard to explain) and earth.
I kept getting a taste that reminded me of the smell of some store walk-in humidors if that makes a lick of sense.
Interestingly, I got a hint or two of BANANA. Believe it.

2nd Half
Needed a small touchup, and the draw got a bit tighter.
Also, a bit of cracking occured near the head.
Here comes the flavor, WOW.
Tons and tons of flavors, basically an enormous multiplication of the previous flavors (minus the banana)
Started to get some dirty hay type of flavors.
And something I couldn't put my finger on, but the best I can say (and I mean this well) is the smells from an auto mechanic shop. But I've been in 2 in the past 2 days so maybe my brain was playing tricks.

In the end, this is an excellent cigar, especially for the price.
I'm glad my buddy gifted this one to me, and I will mooch for more. Big Grin

Side Note:
The book, Predictably Irrational is a great book for anyone interested in business and/or human nature.
It's one of those books that changes the way you think and act, even though it's not any kind of self-help book or anything. It just presents a bunch of studies done about how we make poor decisions, consistently and predictably.
