The wife has given her blessing, so now school is the only hurdle...

Thinking about different transporation options, I looked at Amtrak, and it looks like it would be about $67 each way - not bad...    If I drove, the gas would cost me a lot more, and it is cheaper than flying...  plus, I could just relax and not have to worry about crap...

I would be about 10 hrs total...    Almost 4 hrs on a train from Modesto to Bakersfield, and then a bus for 6 hrs to LV...

So, I have never done the Amtrak/Bus thing...   is this something to consider?  Is it clean/safe/etc?   I guess I am more concerned about the bus part of the trip...

Also, where the hell would I end up in Vegas, and do they have shuttles there?

Thanks for the info!

When we went up to see you the bus/amtrak way was awesome. Busses are clean, train is safe and yes, its cool because you just sit back and relax. 10 hrs seems like a lot, but if you take a good book, or get drunk, the time will flyWink.

Maybe you will run into the Indian "Banana Nut Muffin" Guy[lol]

The bus will leave you in the terminal, shuttles are plenty there and cheap. I tooks a shuttle from the strip to North Town and it was 20 bucks. Im sure you could get a better deal

Not only do I not know what's going on, I wouldn't know what to do about it if I did.

Sounds good...  if there are shuttles from the Greyhound station in Vegas, I just may go that way...   $20 isn't bad, especially considering the $$ I'll be saving on the trip...

We shall see...

I took Amtrak to Robs LI herf last year,8 hours to Penn Station then switched to LIRR out to LI. I was in first class (last car on the train, about $50 more each way but worth it IMO) very comfortable big leather reclining seats, free beverages (non alcohol) electric outlets to plug in your laptop ect...

one of my favorite "low rent" places to hang out in vegas is a little sheet hole called O'sheas. Its a little dumpy casino that is next to the IP.  It has a food court in the back with BK and Subway, to name a few.  Cheap beers, full bar, and all the regular games, and for you frat boys, they also have "beer pong".

All I know is that if you eat at subway you dont get fat, like Jared, but your wallet stays full because its cheap, "five dollar foot long".  It is not hard to blow $150 in a day down there just on food.  Jimmy Buffets kicks ass though, their nachos rule, and their big margaritas have a fifth of tequila in them.  Money well spent.  By the way, there is a liquor store in the Flamingo.  Nothing like a fountain drink and a bottle of Captain Morgans to help your evening.  I still think a great way to see Vegas involves a tall can of beer from the minimart, and a nice cigar.

I might bring a lawn chair so I can just sit in front of the fountain at the Bellagio and chill.  Best show on the strip, and its free.

style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #b9af9f"I cant wait for this, I hope you guys are ready.  I have been known to be a bad influence, according to my old lady.

Carl, we did all that. Tank and I had a subway, went to Jimmie Buffets. We also purchased with Marcelo a cooler, stock it up with beer and ice and had refreshments when ever we wanted. Down from there (I forget the name) we had breakfeast and dinner at this place that was decent and cheap.

Keno  at Caesar's place: We drank for nothing and smoked all day.
