We'll tax you 90% Federal and 10% State
#1
Only the Federal government has the power it seems, that when it screws something up, it can "fix" it.  Now they're going after all the bonus money paid out to firms receiving TARP money...or at least money paid to "executives" who made $250k or more.

Sadly, it's affecting those who agreed to retention bonuses at Merrill LAST FALL and decided to stay.  Now, the money normally paid in this situation will be taxed retroactively because the government is trying to quell an uproar.

Maybe we'll have a US Tea Party and not just in Boston or Chicago?

I'm not saying if I'm for or against the bonuses...but if they can pass a law to retroactively seize property from these private citizens...they can pass a law to seize other property from any other private citizen. That's what scares me.

Exactly.  What's to stop them from one day saying "anyone who makes over $100,000 this year and has worked for XXXXX industry will be taxed at 90%/10%"  What about over $50,000?  It can happen.

Is it me or do I smell totalitarianism coming from Washington?

Both the left and the right are to blame for this one.

Why can't they just do whats right rather than what their respective parties want them to do?  I say RIP to the American principles because congress has killed and buried them deep.
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Well not quite!  Wink   The Right does not think that way.  The Left generally does, as do the Blue Blood Repubicans!

The so called "far Right" are the Constitutionalists who are perceived as far Right because the Left has gone way left off the deep end with its intruments of power grabbing, socialism, taxation, regulation, and potentially Totalitarianism!  [thumbsup]

What ever happened to morals and ethics in business?  These Aholes should just willingly payback all or most of the money.

Bad morals and ethics are the fault of the person, not the system!
