extra long matches?

Me neither. My palate is probably stupid anyway because I can't taste the lighter fluid from a plain old Zippo like everybody warns you about either. I use a triple torch for convenience sake though, it sure gets 'em up and running fast.

Your choice with matches seems to be to use regular matches and let it burn off the sulphur before starting the light (which would decrease the usable flame time per match) or buy some sulphur-free matches like these:

(I just did a quick search - I can't vouch for the company, just wanted to share a pic and description).

I use butane - either torch or soft flame work excellently.

I would think cigar shops would have them.

.

We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and a presumption that once our eyes watered.

I completely agree with that. When I am in the mood and have such a desire I often use the matches I get free from my local B&M. The owner knows this about me, so when I go in, he often gives me several “promotional” match packs. I’ve gotten several from CAO and Nub. All of them are about four inches long, and it usually takes me two to three matches to properly light the foot.
