Best $100 - Roku Player HD
#1
After seeing this on the netflix website I decided to take a chance since they offer a 30 day money back guarantee. My concern was that the connection wouldn't be fast enough for a quality HD picture.

What a great surprise! This little box rocks and provides unlimited Netflix viewing to the entire "watch instantly" library with no additional subscription cost. It has wireless and ethernet connections + it's easy set up and works great.

The other channels are a plus but probaly won't get much use.

This company makes a little device called the Sound Bridge.
I bought 1 2 years ago and it is among my favorite possessions.

What the soundbridge does is links with your PC and accesses all of the music your mediaplayer knows about (it does not have to be running, only the PC must be on) It also knows about all of your playlists you built using your media player. What this thing does is , using your wireless router, links to your PC (setup was a snap) and plays any song or songs you wish. Just like your ipod you can play playlists, by artist, genre, album, title... The output is like your ipod so you can plug in a headset or plug it into any amp (aux input on any stereo). Using this I have access to all of my 14,000 songs on my PC from anywhere my wireless router will reach.
I enjoy it most when cooking, I play my Italian playlist, or Christmas, play my christmas playlist, or outside where I'll play my pink floyd, or my Bluesman (AKA Don) playlist or my classical, or whatever strikes me.
Oh, on the 4th I have an "America" playlist where I have any and all songs that mention America or something related.

Anyway, Roku is an outstanding company with a keen eye towards providing a product you could not make any improvements on!

yeah, those bridges are pretty sweet, i used to sell them, but i don't have one myself. i was thinking i should look into it, but i have an ipod and the portable bose. they are awesome though. as for the roku player hd, i'm guessing it is probably quite similar to the same functionality of a ps3 or xbox360, which both have netflix support. is that right, or is it better? it looks pretty cool.

That sound bridge sounds like a very cool device Skipper, I remember your post right after you got it.

Scott, the main difference I can tell between the roku and player and the ps3 or xbox360, other than the ability to play video games, is that you don't have to upgrade your netflix plan to unlimited. It works just fine with my basic $8.99 plan. My guess is that the ps3 or xbox360 have the ability to download and save multiple titles to the hard drive where the roku player just streams one movie at the time.

Very cool technology. I might have to do some more research and see what best fits my family's needs.
