ELP certainly were pioneers in many things and yes, they did understand the mathematics of music (if not consciously then most certainly subconsciously. But nowhere near what PF & JT did. Oddly, many of the doors songs are fairly mathematically complex but in a subtle way.

wow, hard to belive Syd's gone, but then again, I guess I always figured he was in a pretty intense ammount of pain, so at the same time, I 'm glad he's finally at peace.
Piper at the Gates of Dawn was an incredible album, I need to dig it up and give it a listen again.
