Cigar boxes are an almost dead even split between Spanish Cedar or Honduras Mahogany. You can tell just by smelling them, Spanish cedar is much more aromatic which is why it was originaly thought to be cedar rather than what it truly is (part of the Mahogany family) and usually has a slighly red hue as opposed to a white hue in the Honduras Mahogany. As for the paint. I agree with the other guys, If it smells bad, keep it away from your smokes.
