This is the biggest flood in history here in the midwest.
I believe something like 83 or 88 of the 99 counties in Iowa have been declaired disaster areas with more becoming presidential disaster areas. This has reached 500 year flood levels.
I live near Cedar Rapids, IA.
We have a river that goes though the center of downtown called the Cedar River. Flood stage for that is 12 feet.
It crested Friday morning at 31.12 feet.
Downtown, to put it nicely is fucked. We had a big flood back in 1993 where the river crested at a record 20 feet in town.
This is just a mind boggling amount of water. Really gives you an idea how it must have felt when Katrina hit, except without as much devistation from wind.
I'm fine though and have power, for now (its being intermitent).
And i finally have internet back.

I know other parts of the state and other states have been hit hard, but all I keep hearing on the news is about stuff in town and near by which is really irritating. There is other news going on you know.
So anyway, keep us in your prayers. Iowa city is giong to be hit next by the cresting water about Wednesday. Another large city south of here where the University of Iowa is.
