Hi Folks!

In the midst of putting together a cigar smoking session for my oldest son's wedding reception I became more and more attracted to the idea of smoking cigars.  Even though the smell of cigars has offended me in the past (could be cheap cigars) I couldn't stop thinking about it.

I've smoked cigarettes for 40 years and my lungs deserve a rest, though I'm not averse to the occasional cigar inhale.  I've always loved the thick and luxurious look of cigar smoke.  I've read much online about the wonderful flavors one can get from a fine handmade Dominican cigar from Cuban seed.  I've read about hints of oak, chocolate, leather, cream, vanilla and so many others if it is a fine cigar made from quality tobaccos.  But, I'm not necessarily into the idea of a purposely flavored cigar where a particular spice, etc. is added to the tobacco.

Any serious advice would be much appreciated.  I already have a humidor and humidifier on the way.   Now I just need to know where to start.  Also, is an occasional inhale of, say, a mild cigar enjoyable?  I enjoy inhaling, but I know I've got to make it just an occasional thing - especially with a cigar.  Thanks!

Welcome from North Dakota!   Might I suggest an Oliva or Camacho Connecticut cigar to start?  Great mild sticks that don't lack on flavor!  And they are real tobacco and not purposely flavored.

[welcome]....Listen to Tank cant go wrong with a Oliva...Best thing to do is start trying different sticks and seeing what your OWN tastes prefer....Cigars are a great enjoyment!  Enjoy experimenting.

Welcome to StogieChat.

My best advice on cigars is to do what makes you happy.[happy]

Expeiment with some different styles of cigars.  Some are short and fat while others are long and skinny and there is everything in between.  You will be surprised to find that a certain size can affect the experience.  Also there are many different styles of tobacco which can be blended in countless ways.  Go to your local cigar store and talk to the owner or a knowledgable employee.  If there are other customers there then quiz them.  Cigar smoking is a social experience and BOTL (Brothers of the Leaf) love talking about our hobby.  Buy several different cigars in different sizes, tobacco make up, wrapper color and price points and just keep smoking until you get it right.

Most of all, sit back and enjoy your new found passion!

Ditto but I would try Oliva cigars. The G or O are great mild smokes.
