Yesterday I managed to talk a distributor to sell me a bunch of sinkers wholesale. This guy is cheap. All over the Internet (claimed to be whoesale) prices are going for around 50 cents an ounce. I bought 100 pounds for $160. That's 10 cents an ounce.
While this was a major score, I cant believe what is happening to the price of all metals. And as prices go up, so do profits. This guy for instance, as far as I know this is his only income. He distributes for a large portion of the east coast. Last year he sold his 28 foot mako and bought a 36 foot Henriques. Like this one: ![]() THE MAN SELLS SINKERS!!! (by the way, in case you dont know this boat goes for almost half-a-mil) Zincs on my boat used to run around $25 to change them all. Now it's over $800 (this includes labor). They filled pennies with zinc because the copper was worth around 2 cents per penny. Well, the zinc is now worth over a penny and the extra processing to copper coat the coins is expensive. I don't know where this all ends, but I'm almost glad I wont be around in another hundred years. I could just see people 3 generations form now saying to their kids: "When I was young a loaf of white bread used to cost only $17.50" (that is of course if they dont declare it carcinogenic) Jonathan Charles Axisa, my beloved son, 11/7/1979 - 7/8/2010

Good point John. They use to throw car batteries away but no more plus there is a big core charge when you buy a new one because they rebuild them. HUGE business now. There are signs all over town "buying batteries $12" Then there are the 5 gal buckets of wheel weights sold every day. 3 years ago Who woulda thunk Platinum would be less than gold
. We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and a presumption that once our eyes watered. |

They are selling wheel weights now? We used to get them for free and melt them down to make weights for the racecars.

My grandpa searches almost daily to find wheelweights to cast his own sinkers. Soon the lead ones will be illegal though just like everything else. Nice score skip

Good point. It's tough to find lead shotgun shells here

Crazy stuff!
I have to re quote alot of my bronze filled PTFE due to the copper price changing everyday... Its nuts! ~ 2010- The year I was "showered" with gifts from my SC Brothers. Gratitude is when memories are stored in the heart, and not in the mind. Our hearts will not forget. |
