Anyone have any experience, recommendations, or sources?

I'll be looking at roughly 250--300 cubic feet if I get the house I've made an offer on . . . also will want to look at built in cooling (thermoplate, like a wine cooler) if anyone has ideas on that.

Probably have a hard time building it for a lot less than this...

Robbie would probably be a good one's brain to pick on this one NANP.Wink  I believe a Moist-n-aire might be what you're looking for.
Peltier cooling really wouldn't work on that size. You could use a thermostat controlled register/ vent cover for your cooling to controll it. There are smaller units for the humidity. Ask discdog because he did his also.

Screw all that nonsense. Do the only "Rob" thing.

You will need:
  • 47 pounds of beads
  • 93 bowls
  • 93 ousts fans
  • 186 AA batteries
put 1/2 pound of beads in each bowl. Scatter the bowls around the walk-in. Arrange each of the 93 ousts fans (after installing the batteries) just above each bowl of 1/2 pound beads.

It may be a good idea to number the bowls and fans so when checking them for clarity (moisture content) you wont miss any.

I know this solution wont be cheap but think of it as a new hobby as you check the batteries, fans, beads and everything else roughly weekly.

Oh, you may want to keep a parker handy and ear plugs. I'm thinking 93 ousts fans will make a bit of noise and there will be 1 heck of a draft.
Great links Taf - Great examples right there.

I would give Bob Staebel a call and ask him about the material he uses to insulate his refrigerated cabinets - not sure if it can be used to help insulate the closet walls. During the summer heat the house insulation heats up and createss an oven effect, it might be a good idea to add some extra layer of protection.

Those ones on the Staeball site look like what I was visualizing . . . didn't realize he sold parts. Thanks, Taf!

Closet's not all that big, about a 5' X 5' or so walk in with the door placed to allow storage on 2 sides . . . I'll know tomorrow whether we've reached a deal on it yet or not, but it looks pretty good.

That size, I was wondering if I could just cannabalize a wine cooler for the electrostatic plate and thermostat controls. I'm no good with electronics, but my brother and nephew both are. Maybe box a corner and have air return on one end, fans on the other, plate inside. Something like that.

Definitely more insulation. This IS South Texas, after all. Probably furr it out another 2" and add foil coated foam board.

The peltier plates are calculated to the square inch and will cool no more than what cab it's spect for and it's not much. I say run an ac duct with a damper to close in the heating season. I am working with a manufacturer now for a unit for the cab I'm building to maybe produce one day. Another way is to put a small 110 window unit in the attic and duct it to the closet is what I plan to do with a closet when it's time. You can get one for under $100 and don't have to worry about the temps at all.
I'm just worried about the RH swings with a conventional cooling unit, is all. If I insulate well, the room AC may be enough . . . or it may not. I know there's humidifier units that also cool, but they're commercial grade and major bucks. Sad

What about doubling the plates and creating positive airflow with some fan units? It'll probably only need to make a few degrees difference in the temp, after all.
