F.D.A. Will Propose New Regulations for E-Cigarettes (and Cigars)

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/24/health...00000&_r=2

They combined cigars in with eCigs because they know the proposed regulations on eCigs has a good chance of passing.

Looks like Drew Estates and many other manufacturers will have to give up their flavor secrets? Or will the FDA ban flavoring like they did with cigarette tobacco?

"But the new blueprint was also notable for what it did not contain: any proposal to ban flavors in e-cigarettes and cigars, like bubble gum and grape, that public health experts say lure children to use the products, or any move to restrict the marketing of e-cigarettes, as is done for traditional cigarettes, which are banned from television, for example.

F.D.A. officials said the new regulations were the first major step toward asserting the agency’s authority and eventually being able to regulate flavors and marketing. But doing so will require further federal rulemaking, they said.

For example, to restrict the use of flavors, the agency would have to establish a factual record that they pose a health risk for young people. "

“You can’t get to the flavors until you have regulatory authority over them,” said Mitchell Zeller, director of the Center for Tobacco Products at the F.D.A."

The article also mentions that manufactures will not be able to offer free samples. Now from experience with the "cigarette" end of things:
* No free samples
* Subdued marketing
* No promotional items (no more Marlboro caps/shirts). Will that lead to no more cool ashtrays, shirts, hats, etc with cigar brand references? YUP...
* Possible ban of flavored cigars, as they found flavored cigarettes to be a gateway for staring smoking and cigars are just a bigger version of what was already banned.

This will more than likely mean the end of LE cigars too. If they have to submit for approval everytime hey have a small run blend their just gonna scrub doing it or the cost will start going thru the roof.

Wow, your agencies are staffed by retards. Your government can wave bye bye to the revenue raised through taxation through their interference.
