Tahoe Reportâ¦
Just got back from 3 days in Tahoe. One of my wifeâs good friends was married at the top of Heavenly on Saturday night, and it turned out to be a great weekend. (My wife was a bridesmaid)
We drove up on Friday and aside from a little traffic, it was pretty uneventful. We checked in to the Horizon with just the right amount of time to change and drive to Heavenly (about 3.5 miles) for the rehearsal. (I picked the Horizon purely based on the fact that we visited the Horizon on the somewhat ill-fated Herf Van Trip at HARD last year.)
We met up with everyone and rode the tram up to the top of the mountain⦠I snapped a few pics just so that you can see the great view â this view was from where the ceremony and reception took place:
The wifey and I at the rehearsal:
(notice the nice Coach bag on my shoulder)
So they went through the rehearsal no problem, and then it was time to celebrate a little⦠We spent a little time at Harveyâs as the bride, her sister, and some other friends were staying there. Then we all decide to head to the Horizon for more drinks, gambling, etc.
So this is where things got interesting⦠I lit up an â05 Fundador, was drinking vodka tonics, and was enjoying getting to know the people in the wedding party that I had not met before â Kristen the maid of honor, the other bridesmaids, the groomsmen, the parents, etc⦠One of the groomsmen walked up and asked what I was smoking. I told him. We started talking about cigars a little bit, and he mentioned that he had recently picked up a box of VR Unicos for his dad. Hereâs the kicker⦠he said a guys he worked with down in San Diego helped him get the cigars⦠a guy I happen to know via another forum! I just started laughing and told him that he had to be kidding. And he didnât believe that I knew him. He said he was going to call him⦠I told him to say that MaytagMan says hi. He called and was floored as well that we had this connection. He handed me the phone and I got to talk for a few minutes⦠(great talking to you by the way!) When he got off the phone, he told me that I was set up for the rest of the weekend on drinks⦠Eric (the groomsman) literally hovered over me the entire rest of the weekend making sure that I had a bottomless vodka tonic! Not to mention water, diet coke for driving duty, etc⦠Finished the evening off with a RASS.
So that ended up being a late night.
The next day we got up for breakfast, and then my wife went up to get ready for the wedding as she had to be up there by about 2:30. I decided to lose a little money and smoke a PLPC as another couple and myself didnât have to leave until around 4.
There was some kind of festival going on that day and they had Hwy 50 blockd off for a few blocks, which meant that traffic was backed up a few miles coming into the area. Since my wife had taken my car up earlier, we were going to call a cab. No problem â we were going to walk back on 50 to the end of the festival and then call a cabâ¦but⦠there was no way a cab could get to us since all the roads were blocked off. So we walked⦠and walked⦠and walked⦠all the way to Heavenly⦠all uphill, at high altitude, and in our dress clothes.
But we finally make it, got up the mountain in the tram, and enjoyed the hell out of a great wedding, reception, meal, and party! They even had a nice seated smoking area that was perfect for the PSD4 I brought along!
Here are a couple more shots:
An overview of the ceremony area all set up â it was absolutely gorgeous at night!
The Maid of Honor (sister of the bride), the Bride, and their mom shortly after the ceremony:
There are some great casino pics others took, but I have not seen them yet⦠which may be goodâ¦
