Independence Day in the Blue Ridge Mountains
#1
I took an extended weekend trip to my Blue Ridge Mountain roots on the Fourth of July and snapped some pictures for y'all.

Watermelons are in season!

The second cutting is coming along nicely.

I love the advertising painted on old buildings. This was an old "filling" station, notice the automobile lift in the foreground.

Shared a good cigar with my childhood buddy, Junie,  who has MD and is a wheelchair now.

Yours truly smoking with Junie on his front porch.

Went to the local carnival that I went to when I was a kid. And no, I couldn't do it. 8-(

I was lucky enough to get a decent photo of the fireworks. Have you ever tried to photograph fireworks? It's nearly impossible!.

And here's the great big reason I went to the mountains. To sing Happy Birthday to my Mother!
