How to be a Republican:
#1
Copiously ripped off from Ann Richards and embellished...

Things you have to believe to be a Republican today:

1) Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton. Remember, God hates homosexuality, but loves the death penalty.

2) Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when George H.W. made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when George W. Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.

3) Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

4) The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.

5) A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all of mankind without regulation. Let legions of unwanted children grow up to be criminals (so we can hang 'em), but pollution is OK as long as it turns a profit.

6) The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay. The more tours of duty they see, the more they'll appreciate fighting for our Freedom ™.

7) If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex!

8) A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, then demand their cooperation and money.

9) Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing health care to all Americans is socialism.

10) HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.

11) Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

12) A president lying about an extramarital affair is a impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.

13) Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution,
such as banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.

14) Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then, it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.

15) You support states' rights, but the Attorney General has the power to tell states what local voter initiatives they have the right to adopt.

16) What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.

17) Repeat the same tired mantra over and over until even *you* believe it. "Tax and spend Democrat." Try to forget that you're the "borrow and spend" type who'll hand your great-grandchildren an IOU. Ooops, forgot! Silly me, there won't BE any great-grandchildren because the Rapture is right around the corner!

18) Hate big government. Even when it's silly, hate big government. Big governments do stupid things like mobilize to help people after major hurricanes. We certainly don't want any of that!

19) The nation's current 8-year prosperity was due to the work of Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, but yesterday's gasoline prices are all Clinton's fault.

20) You have to be against all government programs, but expect your Social Security checks to arrive on time.

21) You have to believe...everything Rush Limbaugh says.

22) The agricultural, restaurant, housing and hotel industries can survive without immigrant labor.

23) Prayer belongs in schools, as long as you don't pray to Allah or Buddha.

24) The business of America is business. Government interference in business is evil, until your oil company, corporation or Savings and Loan is about to go broke and you beg for a bail out.

25) Public schools are bad. Vote against every increase in local school spending. Furthermore you have to believe a poor, minority student with a disciplinary history and failing grades will be admitted into an elite private school with a $1,000 voucher.

26) Complain to anyone who will listen about the "liberal bias" in the media. Try to forget that every major news outlet other than CNN is owned by conservatives.

QFT!!!

. . . and TFF . . . [lol]

But you forgot #27: Raise the spectre of "what if Gore had been President on 9/11?" anytime someone points out Dubya's disastrous shortcomings as a leader.  Conveniently ignore the fact that Gore, like Kerry, actually SERVED in Viet Nam, whereas Dubya spent the war defending Texas from Oklahoma . . . and apparently couldn't even manage to show up for that.

And never, ever admit that Osama bin Hidin' was a paid CIA operative from '77 to '87 . . . Confusedhock:

Seems to be mostly religous right beliefs she doesnt' like. But then coming from Ann Richards, what more could you expect.

1) Mixing religion & law - no wait, didn't she whine about separation of church and state? During her tenure as Gov., how many death row inmates were pardoned? God hates homosexuals and loves the death penalty? Which book is she reading?

2)Reagan armed him due to the threat of Iran, G.H.Bush along with over 100 other nations "attacked him" due to his invasion of another country-remember? Cheney did business with Iraq, ever heard of imported oil? We buy from any nation selling so is this really surprising?Jimmy Carter has never heard of a communist dictator he didn't like, which one is worse? Over 100 terrorist training camps destroyed, tons of WMD,s destroyed, tyranical government laid to rest - she thinks we are not better off?

3)This is a football, and I agree with the sentiment of the statement. What makes one better than the other? Both sides have had ample time to act upon this and neither will.

4)The reason for getting out is because they are anti-american, name one resolution in the last 40 years that came down on the side of the US. The UN made a resolution and then tried to ignore the problem that would not go away for years, GW simply took it to heart. And then the UN is upset with us. Awwhttp://www.

5) Huh? Is abortion not legal? What corporation doesn't have regulations governing every action they take. Who's hanging children, I must've missed the legions wandering the streets. The EPA just announced last year that the air in our cities is cleaner now than it has been in 30 years.

6) Benefits & pay at highest levels ever, now if she's using the old liberal mind trick and referring to the "proposed budget", she would be correct. Instead of increasing 50% it only increased 35%, but that is still an increase, not a decrease. Try to find some government agency that recieved operated on a reduced budget under the Bush administration, pleeeze. I've been looking for 6 years and have not found one yet.

7) If you give them condoms they won't have sex either. What makes today's kids better that me. Go get a job, earn your own money and buy them like I did. What is the government doing teaching morals and ethics anyway, oh yeah, they know better than we do what our children need. Since they have such an awesome track record with successful social programs already under their belt.

8) Finally a member of our government calling a spade a spade. If they only support us when it's in their best interests, screw'em. We don't need them and hopefully we can reciprocate the gesture the next time (and yes, there will be a next time) they need us. But the American people, as compassionate as we are will help. As we always do.

9) As long as their government is doing so, and they are paying for it, let them do it. We are not a socialist government (much to the chagrin of liberals nationwide), we do not have a right to health care, that would be personal responsibility. Oh, sorry, two more words completely alien to a liberals vocabulary.

10)Again, it is your responsibility to find the one that works for you. Not the governments. That is one of the great things about this country (yes one, we have many), we have choices.

11) She finally got one right!

12)Wait, so when the president said the following:

Bin Laden is a terrorist that had to be dealt with

Hussein has WMD's and has to be dealt with

Iraq is a terrorist state and must be dealt with

Iraq has a developing nuclear program that must be dealt with

You mean all of these were lies? Dammit, I knew those bastids should have kicked Clinton out of office when they impeached his lying ass, there's no way someone who was caught lying about having sex, rape, and drugs could be trusted.

13) First part is correct. Second part religous right ( both sides - depending on whose vote they were pandering for)

14) Hopefully all recovering addicts recieve prayers, God knows Ted Kennedy has.

15) Uh, I think she as forgotten that this was a liberal initiative started in the 60's in the south. Now that it has been used against them, it's someone elses fault. Typical.

16) Not sure what she is referring to, draft dodging? Not inhaling? Sexual assault? Lying? Could she be talking about morals and values? Maybe a statement of character or a life pattern. I don't know.

17) This is one that I will never understand. And why all liberals should be regaling the failure of the Bush admistration. Please, show me a bill, law, anything that GW has signed or stated where he has done anything but increase government in our lives and wallets. He should be hailed as one of the liberals greatest presidents, and yet, because of a religous belief, he's the most hated liberal on the planet. I don't know about Rapture, generally I don't listen to Al Frankkin or Alan Colmbes to hear all of the doom & gloom updates.

18) Exactly! It took the bureaucrats how long to decide whether to enter the area or not, whose responsibility it was, who was in charge, how to handles every detail, what to pay for, who to pay, how long to pay. Yeah, I see your point, big government did a great job.

19) No, it was due to the only good thing Clinton did whlie in office. Nothing. Again, point to one bill, piece of legislation, or executive order signed by Clinton that produced any benefit to an economic boom like has never been seen. Not one, he left all of RR & GH's policies in affect and it worked. With the exception of normal cyclic economic hiccup in the early 80's, we've had a fantastic ride for 30 years.

Price of gas is nothing more than basic economics - supply & demand. They supply, we demand. Pretty simple if you weren't abused by your parents and sent off to government schools.

20) Wrong. Be against all government subsidies, especially SS. If I had all of the money I paid into SS, I would have retired already. And a lot more comfortably than anyone waiting on SS.

21) You have to inform yourself and anyone who gets there info from a celebrity wholly is an idiot.

22) What does this have to do with liberal/conservative? Is she referring to illegal aliens? Or legitimate migrant workers? I the first, they are ILLEGAL, why are they here? Hotels & restaraunts? Make kids get off their asses and get a job. That's who has traditionally done this type of work, and those who made poor education choices. Why do we need illegals?

23) AMEN. If you want to pray in school, why not? I don't believe I ever took a test and didn't pray.  Now if you are talking about an organized/mandatory religion specific prayer, don't send your children to that particular religous school.

24) Or your union's pension plan, public school system, city or municipal infrastruture.

25) a. Correct - they turn out a higher number of idiots everyday

      b. Correct - just a waste of more and more money that I could use to properly       educate my own offspring.

       c. Bullshit. That's what we have restaraunts, hotels, amusement parks,                   and prisons for.

26) They are all publically owned and operated by liberals. You're not calling Ted Turner a conservative are you? I mean - the Communist News Network, conservative? I may need to come a little further south to see what's on your tv. Never mind, I've been to the Keys, I didn't leave anything there that I need to go back for.

27) Don't forget the main staple of the liberal mantra. " If you tell a lie long enough, it will become the truth."

edited to add: I didn't copy this from anyone, just my observations.

Oh wait... didn't president Carter start his term in 1977? So... did Carter make binladen a CIA operative?

Someone help me her eplease... wasn't Jimmy Carter a democrat?

Oh & wait, didn't Clinton bomb gaddafi (when he wasn't bombing Lewinsky)?

Does anyone here want to talk about Clintons war record? Oh wait... What war record? Oh yeah... maybe we should talk about draft evasion.

The rant mentions Cuba... Wasn't a democrat in office when all that crap started? (remember JFK?)

Does anyone here know why the Iranians, our one-time alies, took over our embasy (with a democrat in the whitehouse)?

Your facts above are twisted, incomplete or both. Conveniently spelled out in a way to prove a point.

This grows so tiresome. Yeah, from both sides. This is not a democrat exclusive. I dont like it. I'll listen the day someone gives pure unbiased facts and in total.

The difference (at least on this board) to me is:

When DD posted the "how to be a good liberal"  three members ran up the "gee whiz, that was patriotic" smiley   [usa]

Remember, it's patriotic to poke fun at liberals. Luckily liberals have a sense of humor.

When I posted the "how to be a Republican thread," we got some ROFLs, but no [usa]  None of the liberals here felt the need. We're comfortable enough in our patriotism to realize that love for one's country isn't predicated on a political party.

In their own, misguided way, I'm sure the conservatives think that restricting freedom of speech in the name of Security™ is patriotic.

Their belief that the Bill of Rights is essentially optional (excepting, of course, the second amendment) probably somehow constitutes patriotism as they see it. Naturally, liberals view this as rubbish. But you'll never hear a liberal say, "You're either with us or you're with the terrorists."

If the conservatives are wondering why liberals are so ticked off lately, it's been the past five years of "you're either with us or you're with the terrorists."

For the past five years our patriotism has been challenged by conservatives because of our opinion of the Patriot Act, Homeland Security "Code Orange" terrorism alert level, buy duct tape, watch your neighbors, we're invading Iraq even though it has nothing to do with 9/11™, if you don't support the war in Iraq you're a cut-and-run liberal.

I would like to think that 65 years ago, I would have been one of the minority who stood up and said, "Putting U.S. citizens in internment camps just because their ancestors were Japanese is wrong."

I would like to think that 50 years ago, I would have been one of the minority who stood up and shouted, "Just because their skin is a different color, doesn't mean they can't sit at the same lunch counter as me."

I would like to think that 30 years ago, I would have been one of the minority who stood up and said, "Gender shouldn't make any difference. All men (and women) are created equal."

I can say with certainty that I have stood up and said that suspending Habeas Corpus is wrong.

I can say I have stood up and said attacking Iraq in order to get back at Osama bin Laden was a stupid idea.

And is it unpatriotic for me to ask why Weyerhaeuser is being put in charge of old-growth forests on public land?

I can't resist... allow me to put a brain on this...

1) Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton. Remember, God hates homosexuality, but loves the death penalty. I dont see why you say this is republican. Quite honestly I see plenty of democrats saying this and republicans going the other way.

2) Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when George H.W. made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when George W. Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion. What was he when Carter and Clinton was in office? Speaking of Bin Laden... what did the democrats do when the WTC was bombed the first time? Was it this inaction that permitted the second tragedy?

3) Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony. See my rant above. Started by a democrat and supported by the 4 or 5 democrat terms since.

4) The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq. The US should get out of the UN is a republican idea? I must be missing something. And if we didn't enforce the UN's resolutions against anyone, who the hell will?

5) A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all of mankind without regulation. Let legions of unwanted children grow up to be criminals (so we can hang 'em), but pollution is OK as long as it turns a profit. This is not about a decision about a womans body. Wake up? That's like saying I should be able to kill the person sitting next to me on a plane cause they made me uncomfortable. Hey, it's my body! Sorry, this is about when life starts. It is debatable and anyone who doesn't see this has their eyes closed. And can someone please help me... what does the abortion thing have to do with pollution? Legions of unwanted children? Has anyone here tried to adopt lately?

6) The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay. The more tours of duty they see, the more they'll appreciate fighting for our Freedom ™.It sure beats the shit out of humiliating them. Ask anyone who served while Jane Fonda was being "an American".

7) If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex!No, but, maybe 1 or 2 will not because they are tougher to get. Sorry, I can think of 2 instances where it prevented me. If all I had to do was reach into a cookie jar and grab a few, then...

8) A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, then demand their cooperation and money. Sorry, I missed the part where republicans said this. However I have examples where democrats have been thusly guilty.

9) Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing health care to all Americans is socialism. Holy crap... All Iraqis have health care? better than us? HONEY, PACK THE BAGS, WE GOING TO IRAQ!

10) HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart. I dot think this needs to be dignified with a comment.

11) Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools. Sorry, this is not a party thing. (just ask BL, I think he's a democrat and believes 1google-plex% that GW is junk science). both parties seem to treat tobacco the same (although I do believe a few more democrats may have changed their votes due to lobbying by big tobacco... hmmm... I need to check this further.

12) A president lying about an extramarital affair is a impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy. OK, maybe this is the only semi valid argument. BUT, the facts are... Clinton admitted he lied and lied officially. Bush has maintained all along that he had bad info and did not lie. It is the lie itself that is impeachable. regardless of the truth. We KNOW Clinton lied. we dont know that about bush.

13) Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution,
such as banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.what in gods name is this?

14) Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then, it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.I think the difference is a crack user who kills and mugs for $ for his next score. Or the dealers and pushers. Vs a person with a problem. (eyes open yet?)

15) You support states' rights, but the Attorney General has the power to tell states what local voter initiatives they have the right to adopt. again, I dont see a party thing.

16) What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant. Wasn't it proven that Bush's war record was twisted by someone with, lets say, democratic motives?

17) Repeat the same tired mantra over and over until even *you* believe it. "Tax and spend Democrat." Try to forget that you're the "borrow and spend" type who'll hand your great-grandchildren an IOU. Ooops, forgot! Silly me, there won't BE any great-grandchildren because the Rapture is right around the corner! laughable. Sorry. pointless and no facts worth trying to dispute.

18) Hate big government. Even when it's silly, hate big government. Big governments do stupid things like mobilize to help people after major hurricanes. We certainly don't want any of that! This is even more laughable & irrelevant than #17

19) The nation's current 8-year prosperity was due to the work of Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, but yesterday's gasoline prices are all Clinton's fault. Bob Dorian was one of the nations leading economists. He proved that all financial actions has approximately an 8-10 year delay. This means that we will see the affect of Bush's policy when the next president is in office. Now, this like all other theories is not absolute and only a fool would state so.

20) You have to be against all government programs, but expect your Social Security checks to arrive on time. it's not about SS & everything else. Ask anyone with an education.

21) You have to believe...everything Rush Limbaugh says. You never met a more devout republican than me... I hate Rush and have never given him more than 15 minutes of my life (& that was like watching a train wreck)

22) The agricultural, restaurant, housing and hotel industries can survive without immigrant labor. It should.

23) Prayer belongs in schools, as long as you don't pray to Allah or Buddha.Come on with the bull. Praying does not belong in schools. But it should be alright to say God. further more, that would be anyone's or everyone's god.

24) The business of America is business. Government interference in business is evil, until your oil company, corporation or Savings and Loan is about to go broke and you beg for a bail out.Democrats and republicans alike will look into bailing out a company to help to protect the tens of thousands of lives who depend on that company. Remember when the gov helped Chrysler?

25) Public schools are bad. Vote against every increase in local school spending. Furthermore you have to believe a poor, minority student with a disciplinary history and failing grades will be admitted into an elite private school with a $1,000 voucher. Ok, this belongs in the joke section. Well done.

26) Complain to anyone who will listen about the "liberal bias" in the media. Try to forget that every major news outlet other than CNN is owned by conservatives. CNN is so damn liberal it turns my stomach every time I hear them report a story then read the truth in the paper the next day. How divergent it can be.

Sorry if I offended anyone. It was not my intention to do so.

you're right. But it drew flack too from the liberals. Just as your post would draw a reaction from us.

I should not have responded (let alone 3 times)... It's been a helatious week with no sign of letting up.

(I just hired someone, went out on a limb to do so and he is not working out, a multi-million dollar deal is going bad and it's my group at the heart of it, our year-end production is going about as bad as it can & the president is calling for people to get fired (I offered myself on Wednesday), Speaking of Wednesday, got my bonus and raise... oh wait, did I say raise? nope, none for me... i "make to much compared to everyone else".. man... here I go ranting again.)
