Is there any habanos dealers on the island?
Also is it cheaper to get the higher end dominican cigars there than to just buy them from the net? My neighbor is heading out Saturday for 10days and he asked me what kind of cigars I'd want a box of for watching his house, cats, harley's,pool, etc etc and I wasn't sure if I wanted anything at all but there are my questions above, maybe I can give him an answer before then. Thanks |

CP I don't believe there is a LCDH in the DR. I also don't believe you will find any of the high end Dominican cigars available because of licensing agreements. Take your best smokes with you bro. Damn where is Moki when we need him?

From what I understand most Havana cigars sold in the Dominican Republic are fake.

If you're looking for bargains, forget it. All of the premium Dominican cigars are made in special "export only" zones that you need permission to enter. Brands like Fuente, Davidoff, etc., are made there. In order for these cigars to be sold in the Dominican Republic, they have to be exported, and then re-imported.
You'll find real cigars at a few tobacconists, mostly at the higher-end hotels geared towards tourists and people with means from the DR. And there are fakes all over the places, of everything imaginable, not just Cuban cigars. So no, you can't obtain the cigars there any cheaper than you can in the USA; in fact, they will likely be more expensive, since they will be sold mostly at higher end hotels. There is (or at least there was, I haven't been there in a while) a LCDH here: Punta Cana Hotel Meliá Tropical. 809 548 6545 jaag.sa@codetel.net.do You might also try these places: Casa de Campo Club del Cigarro Alton de Chavon 809-523-8369 Santo Domingo Club de Cigarro Hotel V Centenario 809-689-4308 Cigar Country Jaragua Hotel 809-710-5241 Fine Cigars Dominicana Hector Inchaustegui 16 809-544-1887 Santiago La Aurora Calle Eduardo Leon Jimines 1 809-241-1111 |

I thinkg you can get a factory tour and buy 1 or 2 boxes there, but not sure, plus i don't think it's real safe for tourist to go into the areas where the factories are.

If you're speaking of factories that you would most likely want to tour, then no, you can not. Here's a quote I am visiting the Dominican Republic. How can I get a tour of the factory? Answer: While we would love to welcome every cigar lover to our factories, we are unfortunately unable to have tours. Our factories are located in a special "Free Trade Zone" in the Dominican Republic. These zones are huge manufacturing complexes surrounded by barbed wire fences and secured by armed members of the Dominican army who search every vehicle. Probably 90% of Dominican cigars are made in these Zones which allow for the direct exportation of our cigars. Therefore, because of their location, we are unable to host regular tours of our factories. Can I buy your cigars in the Dominican Republic? Answer: Unfortunately, because our factories are located in the special "Free Trade Zones" all of the cigars must be directly exported from the Dominican Republic. Therefore, to legally sell cigars in the DR, we would have to import them from the USA. |
