Beetles!!

Not one of the all time great rock bands. The kind that like to snack on cigars. I figure it was inevitable. Smoke long enough, they're bound to happen. Well they happened to me. Took a couple cigars to my dad's place for us to smoke on this fine turkey day, and noticed small, military like precision holes. So when I got home, I checked my trap (I keep a beetle trap in the humi) and it was clean. I pulled the bundle of sticks that had the holes in them and went through every other stick I had left in the bundle, and made it to the very end. Thought I might be safe, but there was one more cigar in the bundle that had the tell-tale signs of a beetle. And I saw the little bastard in there! Stuck on his back, legs wiggling and all. Removed him, and disposed of him under my shoe. Tiny little bugger, but I got him. Gave a quick run through of surrounding cigars, and didn't see any other signs of beetles. Put the cigars that had been in that bundle in a ziplock bag and into the freezer. My question is- what are the odds of the rest of my cigars being contaminated? I plan to dig a little deeper in the humi in the morning, looking for signs, but is there any hope that the contamination will be isolated to this one bundle, or is it more likely they got into everything else? ugh. great week otherwise, but damn- what a way to end it.

I would just keep a close eye on them. Good chance they are isolated to that one bundle. Did you purchase it recently? What's the temp in your humi?

Just wondering....

A) where were they from?

B) Nothing in the trap? how old was the trap?

(I'm thinking I'm due to buy some new traps myself)

I'm a little nervous now. Wondering if my freezer has enough room for my humi.

Ha! I'm quite worried myself. Went through every box today and didn't see any other signs of infestation. Also went through all the singles on the top. Then I ordered some traps on Amazon. Ran to the hardware store, but they only had traps for moths. Not beetles. So I'm waiting on those to get here. Still considering freezing everything, but really trying to avoid it. Ugh. What to do.

I let my temps get too high last summer and I got hit and lost a couple sticks. I put everything in the freezer and cleaned all of my humidors. I wouldn't take any shortcuts on this. I have to move my humidors into the basement for spring and summer to keep the temps down. Fall and winter they can come back upstairs. Kind of a pain in the butt but it works for me in my house.
