Age Verification to Purchase Online
I recently tried to order cigars online from a site that I have purchased from in the past.  I was asked to upload a government issued photo id to verify my age.  Never had that happen before.  Anyone else run in to this?

BTW, I didn't do it.
I have heard from others having this issue as well in the past. I don't remember from where, but i think something triggers this if i remember correctly. I'll see if I can find anything.

So this is what he's talking about. Quick search, is most of the big online retailers have this.

They want a scanned caopy of my federal ID??  No f'ing way.
Now I'm never going to order from that site.
If Sonny had EZ-Pass, he'd have survived that hit...
Yeah, I don't think I'll be scanning my ID like that. Probably not a good idea.
Fishing is much more than fish. It is the great occasion when we may return to the fine simplicity of our forefathers.
I'm surprised they didn't also ask for your Social Security number and also your bank info

We in the vaping community, have had to do that since august of 2016. Fuck the FDA.
...moving along...nothing left to see here.
I'v seen it done before... don't recall who off the top of my head.

Back when I had the cigar shop I used a service to electronically verify age. It was COSTLY, but a requirement by the credit card processor...and technically its the law to card because its not a face-to-face transaction for an adult product. IF the verification failed, we would ask the customer to provide a photo/scan of their ID as proof of age....or they can cancel the order. 99% of the customers were understanding and did just that. Usually when it failed it was due to a recent move to a new home.

We actually received letters from the State / ATF stating that we 'passed' their test to see if we were selling to minors when they did random testing online. Well worth the piece of mind versus loosing your tobacco license and fines. You still have small shops that really don't check as what 'kid' is really buying a $80 box of cigars. But we sold the mini cigars which were like cigarettes....which is very much on the radar because of their similar size and juicy flavors.
