Hello all!
Today when I came home from work and I saw the R/H all the way to 75% and I was really concern about it, so I opened the humi to bring it down a little. Usually the R/H is between 68% and 70% I'm using a 2oz crystal jars for humidification. Since this is the first time I see the R/H so high I wonder if I'm doing something wrong with my humi or if this is normal to happen? The cigars are pretty much new (about 2 or 3 weeks on the humi). Does the R/H usually goes up once the cigars has obtained the humidity they need? Should I open the cello at the end to avoid this or I'm just getting freak out for not reason? ![]() I will appreciate you thoughts and advice on this one. This may be really stupid for most of you but I already spend a decent amount of money on my stogies and have developed feelings for them so I want to take good care of them ![]() Attached are some pictures of my humidor setup. First off, take a deep breath. One day at 75% will not ruin your cigars.
2, depending on where your cigars come from they may be wetter or dryer and cause a fluctuation in RH, although it should be settled after 3 weeks. 3, opening the humi and letting the humidity out is what I would've done. Where do you have you humidor? Did you recently move it from where it was previously stored? Have you recently turned on the heat in your home? |

I keep the humi on my living room all the time. I only opened the humi for about 15 secs and yes, my wife turned the head on today. Thanks Computer Problems? Have Cigars? We got you! If I'm not mistaken, things like the RH outside, turning on the heat/AC, fluctuating household and outdoor temps can somewhat affect the RH and temp within the humidor. The RH of the humi doesnt HAVE to stay exactly at 70%, you'll find a lot of guys keep theirs at 60 or 65 or anywhere in between.

First thing...how do you know it was actually 75%?
What type of hygrometers are you using? Are they calibrated? Gold Club Member: ARC If Sonny had EZ-Pass, he'd have survived that hit...

Really fresh cigars tend to be shipped quite wet, which will add humidity to the humidor, but it should even out as the others have said. Also, I have noticed my humidity in flux as the season changes. Perhaps keeping the abode a more constant temp, if not already, should help out, too.

My humidor is in my living room on the bookshelf, in the summer time the humidity was constant 70%, but I also had the A/C running at 70 degrees fareheit. Now that Fall is here my windows are open all the time, which means the temperature is always changing in my apartment, and I noticed that my hygrometer changes as well. Somedays it is at 65% somedays it is at 72% but it never jumps from one extreme to the other. So I would have to agree with Diamond Lion here, once we close up the windows and turn on the heat everything should return to a constant. Don't sweat it unless you are getting HUGE differences, say a 6-7% increase or decrease within a few hours then your hygrometer is effed. Hope this helps...

I am in an apartment, too, and have had the windows open instead of the A/C. So, my room temps are fluctuating more than usual. if the temp drops, you're rh will go up until the crystals absorb the excess water. Make sure you're crystals aren't saturated and can absorb as well as release moisture and you'll be ok
